The money dance is a tradition that is rooted in many different cultures. It most popularly symbolizes the wedding guests giving money to the newly married couple so that they can have a financially positive start in exchange for a dance. The couple can use this money in any way they see fit but it is a way for guests to lend support as the bride and groom begin their lives together.
The money dance also allows the bride and groom to individually dance and thank their guests for attending their special day and for all the support that they have offered.
